Repair Damaged Boring Bars Instead of Replacing Them

A damaged indexable boring bar does not always need to be replaced. With NTM’s NU-Head™ service, the damaged head is removed and replaced while the existing carbide shank is preserved.

NTM can repair boring bars from any manufacturer, giving you a practical and cost-effective way to extend the life of your tooling and return valuable bars to service.

AfterBefore

NU-Head™ is NTM’s boring bar repair service for damaged indexable carbide boring bars. Rather than replacing the entire bar, our team removes the damaged portion and attaches a newly manufactured head to the reusable carbide shank.

With more than 150 replacement head configurations available, we can accurately restore a wide range of boring bar sizes and styles.

  1. Send Us Your Damaged Bars
Ship your damaged indexable boring bars to NTM for evaluation. We recommend setting bars aside as they become damaged and sending them together to simplify the process.
  2. We Evaluate the Tooling
Our team inspects each bar to determine whether the carbide shank can be reused and identifies the appropriate replacement head.
  3. We Replace the Damaged Head
The damaged portion is removed and a new head is securely attached to the existing shank.
  4. Your Boring Bar Returns to Service
The repaired bar is inspected and returned, ready to go back to work.

NU-Head™ service can help manufacturers:

  • Reduce the cost of replacing damaged boring bars
  • Preserve and reuse valuable carbide shanks
  • Extend the useful life of existing tooling
  • Repair boring bars made by any manufacturer
  • Reduce unnecessary tooling waste
  • Keep backup boring bars ready for production

Our target turnaround time for NU-Head™ repairs is approximately two weeks. Standard boring bar sizes may also be available for next-day shipment when you need a replacement sooner.
